An All-rounder

In the introduction I mentioned my  extensive education and experience and that might need some further explanation. 

I started from a technical background. With that background I became co-founder and director of the sun bed factory, Alisun, in Heerhugowaard. Translating clients’ wishes into product designs that could also be produced effectively and efficiently, turned out to be the ultimate interpretation of my job. I could put all my empathy and (technical) creativity into it. The various aspects of entrepreneurship were so fascinating that I started to focus on business administration and kept on studying up until 1996 when I got my MBA degree at Nijenrode University.

Experience

The impulse to cooperate and improve quality at that time made me take the initiative to found an association (SVZ) in order to gather together the strengths within the sector and to establish a vocational training course (STEZON), which later I handed over to the LOI College for Higher Education. Cooperation with, for example, the Dutch Cancer Society (DCS) and the Dutch Society for Dermatologists (NVDV) was a logical outcome (Platform for Sensible Sunbathing). My international experience got an extra boost through my position as Secretary General of the European Sunlight Association (ESA) and later I was closely involved in the realisation of the European Act on Sun Beds.

Strengths

My interest in marketing and particularly my involvement in the graphical side of things gradually gained the upper hand.

That is where my personal strength lies! In the mean time I have built up a portfolio of clients from all different background. And so we come full circle: translating clients’ wishes (even if vague) into something tangible, something visible. To give someone’s professional occupation a face. Every time it gives so much satisfaction when it succeeds!
